The Waters of North, East, West, and South of the USA
This project is a visual meditation on water as geography, boundary, mirror, and presence. Shot across the four cardinal edges of the United States, these photographs trace the shape of the country through its surrounding and internal waters. From vast oceans to rivers that cut through cities, the images observe how water holds space — sometimes still, sometimes moving, always watching. The project is not about landmarks, but about the feeling of standing near something ancient, fluid, and indifferent. About being a small part of something bigger.
Katya Stelmashchuk
Katya explores urban geometry, movement, light, and textures through film and digital photography. She focuses on portrait, self-portrait, nude, and street photography, as well as documentary videos, as these genres allow her to tell stories, observe Me-Other neverending confrontation, and reflect on human multifacetedness.
Lately she is focused on exploring the themes of loneliness, the state of being alone, and discovering what keeps an artist's creative pursuit alive when the global (and her own) world order collapses.
Katya’s works are featured in private collections in various locations such as Kyiv, Lviv, New York, New Jersey, Arizona, Hong Kong, Barcelona, and Frankfurt. Katya is a member of the “Vzaemovkl” art community. Currently, she resides in Lviv and works on her new project "Local Internationalism".
