Veterans Journey Home | Documentary Screening and Discussion

PTSD, depression, which evolves into alcohol or/and drug addiction – this is a modest list of challenges military service members are facing when becoming a veteran and transitioning into a civilian world.
What should they do to find their inner peace, and what can society do if not helping, then definitely not traumatizing them more?
Let’s talk at the Veterans Journey Home documentary screening, followed by a discussion with Oscar and Emmy-nominated director Frederick Marx.

📅April 1, 6 PM
📍America House Lviv, Akademika Hnatiuka street, 2, second floor
🎟️To attend, please register:

We’ll be screening two documentaries:
1. Solutions: The greatest minds in Veterans’ healing highlight community-based, non-medicalized solutions for Veterans returning home. (15 minutes)
2. Ben’s Story: A former Army Ranger and sniper, challenged by suicidal ideation, divorce, and alcoholism, fights to reconnect with his family and resume a place of leadership in civilian society. (53 minutes).

“At its core, the Veterans Journey Home documentary series is about acknowledging the unseen costs of war and creating pathways toward restoration. Bringing this series to Ukraine, a nation living through the ongoing realities of conflict, underscores the universal need for compassion, dialogue, and community-based healing,” says Frederick Marx, the director.

Most known for his Academy and Emmy nominations for the films Hoop Dreams and Higher Goals, Frederick has been a filmmaker invested in social change for 45 years. Named a Chicago Tribune Artist of the Year, a Guggenheim Fellow, and a recipient of the Robert F. Kennedy Special Achievement Award, along with numerous other domestic and international awards, he continues to provide a voice of artistic and social integrity. These days, Frederick is coming to Ukraine to support veterans and civilians.
