A tenured, full professor of French, the author of Proust's Self-Reader: The Pursuit of Literature as Privileged Communication who has published numerous articles on foreign language anxiety and teaching empathy through literature. Since May 2017 Dr. Phillip Bailey has served as UCA’s Senior International Officer. He holds a BA degree in French and Humanities from St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota and an MA (1987) and Ph.D. (1993) in French from the University of Virginia.
